So, a couple of weekends ago, my friend Jen and I took a roadtrip to see what is probably the final tour of Nine Inch Nails *sniff*. We went from Bloomington to Chicago for the first show, then back down to Indy for the second show before returning back to Bloomington (and then back to Dad's house to pick up Zoe, before returning to TinyTown).

It was a lot of driving, but man, what spectacular shows!

The Chicago show was right on the lake at the Charter One Pavilion, and though we were in the pit and had drunken frat boys nearby, the set list was fantastic. Even if Trent joked that we needed ski masks because it was so cold on the lake, I didn't feel a thing when the show started...

The real capper, though, was the Indy show - we had AMAZING seats, only yards from the stage. And the band was just ON - you could tell Trent was stoked to be performing. We also got to see Street Sweeper Social Club (fronted by Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine fame) and Jane's Addiction.

Never mind the enormous storm that blew through, spawning a tornado a few miles away. ;-)

A great round of shows from our fave band! What a fantastic trip!

Followed by a visit to Shedd Aquarium. No, I didn't feel guilty about my dinner the night before. ;-)

Jen and I superstoked about our seats in Indy!

Things that make me happy on a Sunday morning...

*The fact that the TinyTown IGA now carries Nutella! (Yes! In TinyTown!)

*The fact that Elizabeth Gaskell's "Cranford" is going to be on PBS tonight.

*The fact that the MotoGP race is on this afternoon.

*This phenomenon.

*My porch on a Sunday morning:

*The new NIN song that Trent released yesterday morning, and the fact that SOMETHING (new album?) is going to happen tomorrow on the NIN-ternet. And that Jen got us GA tickets for the NIN Lexington show at the end of August (which happens to be the LAST show of the tour)!

And finally, this commercial from Discovery (which is airing new eps of Deadliest Catch and Man Vs. Wild, another reason to be happy). I love the world.

So, I'm at home Sunday night, working on a bibliography that was ever so slightly overdue, when my phone rings.

Jen.

Calling to let me know that Trent just posted his new Nine Inch Nails album on the web for download.

Okay, let's talk about this for a minute.

How rad is it that a well-established artist, well respected in the music industry, decides to release his latest album on the WEB, with different download options, and ENCOURAGES people to steal it, mix it, remix it, trade it, use it?

Trent's web album distribution got a positive mention in the WALL STREET JOURNAL, people.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the majority of NIN fans are NOT readers of the WSJ, but I could be wrong. ;-)

Trent's my god, y'all.

Of course, in the course of Jen and I trying to download our $5 version with the rest of the planet, all the NIN fans basically broke the internet. But, an hour later, Amazon's downloads saved the day and I was jamming to Ghosts I-IV, an all-instrumental album with 36 tracks (which is, of course, completely awesome).

I decided not to go for the $300 deluxe edition, though Jen and I were speculating it would be money well spent if Trent delivered the CD in person...

Anyhoo, rad album, rad delivery, rad Sunday night of giggling while refreshing the page over and over and over again...

I heart my NIN. :-)

The Bearded One (Trent Reznor, workin' out his manly beard for charity) was voted #7 on the list of Best Benefit Performances by Spinner.

Now that's a vote I can get behind – especially when you get to see/hear the accompanying video…

Rawr.

(I'm also a big fan of Trent's rendition of "Non-Entity" - piano and boombox *giggle* only - that benefited Katrina victims)

In but a few short weeks, the new Nine Inch Nails album will hit stores.

I'm superpsyched, y'all.

Mostly, because it's only taken Trent a year to put out a new album, rather than the five years NINites have become accustomed to.

(Seriously.)

You might have seen some of the hubbub (on CNN, for example) about the album, what with leaving tracks on USB drives in bathrooms and messages on tee shirts that lead to sites all over the web. Need a good primer? Read the CNN article, or this Rolling Stone one to get up to speed on the new album and *gulp* possible movie associated with it.

And then laugh at the RIAA cracking down on the songs that were leaked. Deliberately. BY THE ARTIST.

I can't wait to load this on the iPod and start jammin'...
